Growing Food & Community Since 1976

The Lawrence Farmers Market started with 3 farmers selling veggies off the back of their trucks in the Lawrence, Kansas Chamber of Commerce parking lot.

Today we have over 65 Vendor Members and are a 501c3 nonprofit working to improve access to locally-grown food and farm products and provide education and opportunities for our community through a direct farm-to-consumer market and free programming.

Cultivating Trusted Pathways to Local Food

As a 501c3 nonprofit, we aim to improve access to locally-grown food and farm products and provide education and opportunities for our community through a direct farm-to-consumer market in Downtown Lawrence, Kansas.

Farmers to Food Banks

We work in partnership with the Douglas County Extension Master Gardeners to donate fresh produce to Just Food every week. Lawrence Farmers Market donates over 8000 pounds of local food each year.

Kids Activities

Our educational programs inspire kids to learn about where their food comes from and what’s in season.

Doubling Your Dollars

Our Double Up tokens increase access to local fresh fruits & vegetables and protein-packed foods for SNAP users in our community.  Learn more about Using Snap Benefits at Market.

Community Booths

We offer Community Booth spaces to non-profit and for-profit organizations and businesses. These spaces allow organizations to spread the word and provide the opportunity to speak directly to the public. Due to increased interest in these booths and administrative time, we are now charging a small application fee and daily rate fee. To apply, fill out an application here.

Music and Entertainment

Performing artists are the heart and soul of the festive atmosphere at the Lawrence Farmers Market. The Market allows Buskers to perform during each Saturday Market. Types of entertainment include: acoustic (non-electric), percussion and vocal musicians, children’s puppet theater, clowns, improv performers, jugglers, and magicians.

Volunteering at the Market

Are you interested in helping to run the Lawrence Farmers Market? We’re always looking for volunteers!  We have many opportunities to help depending on your interests and abilities: setup and takedown, customer counts, helping with kids’ activities, street team, and more.  Message Emily to sign up!

Diversity is Essential to a Thriving Community.

Just as our natural ecosystems depend on biodiversity to flourish, our market grows stronger with the unique perspectives, backgrounds, and identities of everyone who joins us. We are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming space where people feel respected and supported. We stand firmly against discrimination, hate, and intolerance of any kind, including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, or transphobia. Together, we cultivate a place where everyone belongs.

The Lawrence Farmers Market acknowledges that it is located on the ancestral lands of various Tribal Nations, including the 𐓏𐒰𐓓𐒰𐓓𐒷 𐒼𐓂𐓊𐒻 𐓆𐒻𐒿𐒷 𐓀𐒰^𐓓𐒰^(Osage), Jíwere–Ñút’achi Máyaⁿ (Otoe-Missouria), Washtáge Moⁿzháⁿ (Kaw / Kansa), Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Seven Council Fires), Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo). This land was unjustly taken through treaties and acts of violence that aimed to erase Indigenous cultures. Indigenous peoples have historically been the stewards of this land, which is central to their identities and communities.

We recognize the ongoing impact of this history and stand in support of all Indigenous communities, including the four federally recognized Tribal Nations in Kansas: the Prairie Band Potawatomi, Kickapoo, Sac and Fox, and Iowa. Their rich histories continue to enrich our community today.
